Last night I was sweating it out like nobody's business...the Los Angeles Dodgers had to go THIRTEEN (13) innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates?!? Oh, NO!

Andre Ethier's 2-run homer in the THIRTEENTH inning actually brought a tear to my eye, and I heard more than a single tear in Vin Scully's exhausted eye AND voice...Un-fucking believable...Andre knows it's up to him...He can't get on base and wait for M.R. to do something/nothing....duh! Manny is done...I heard the boos last night - not for the ground outs or pop outs or fly outs that he had, but definitely, definitely for the strike out looking. UGLY, Manny, very UGLY...Juan Pierre on the other hand - a stand-up triple!?! Why does Torre not find a way for him to play every day???

Signed, Lisa, anxiously awaiting the post season!

Not Much to Say Lately

I was going to apologize for not posting for a while, but then again, what has there been to post about? The Dodgers are in a series with the Padres, who are so far out of it they might as well be on Jupiter. And they lost the first game to the Padres. And barely won the second game. And are losing the rubber match in the bottom of the 9th. Not acceptable...

Andre Ethier, you're our only hope....Andre Ethier, you're our only hope...

Damn, pop-up. What's next? Just 3-1/2 games over the Rockies....losing, losing, losing. What will happen in Arizona when this San Diego series should have been a guaranteed BIG sweep?!?

Li'l Matt Video - too cute to pass up

Dodgers narrowly beat out D'Backs

Thank you, our fine outfielders, Matt Kemp, Andre Ethier, and Juan Pierre...Excellent job scraping out the win tonight. (Yes, Manny played the whole game - Pierre only pinch hit, but he got the job done and Manny did not.)

Dusty's Sad Face

Well, I wasn't so happy seeing Dusty look happy playing game one of the late August series against our Blue. Not sure how the Dodgers could lose in Cincinnati, but it happened. Today's another story, and I do feel bad again seeing Dusty look so sad. Just like he did when the Reds were in Los Angeles. So, it isn't great seeing Dusty looking unhappy, but it is back to the natural order of things. Juan Pierre is in the game; all things are right with the world. Bottom of the 7th, Dodgers lead 11 - 4.

Final: 11 - 4, good enough!

Cubs Visit Los Angeles

Well, that's three down in the four-game series, and I'm pretty happy with the results so far. Interesting that Manny continues to do little-to-nothing, but the team is coming right along without him, just like they have the whole season. I swear, I've been watching him swing away for two weeks and that man is just not seeing the ball. On the other hand, Matt Kemp certainly is seeing it and feeling it: he hit a 449-foot homer today, one of the longest ever seen in this stadium.

The new pitching additions aren't hurting us, but I'll be glad when Kuroda gets back! He's doing OK, and chipped in $25,000.00, as did Bud Selig for ThinkCure. It's kind of amazing the outpouring and participation from fans, but then again, cancer is something that affects all of us, in one way or another. Looking forward to a sweep tomorrow!

Scott in Burnie's Seat

Hey, not sure whether Norman and Roy appreciated it, but they were very gracious about my cousin Scott coming to the game w/me tonight and taking the seat that Norman and I usually use for our bags and snacks.
Tonight was great because EVERYBODY got a hit:
Furcal singled in 4th and scored a run.
Pierre (playing Center field for an ailing Matt Kemp) doubled gorgeously in the 8th.
Ethier singled in the 3rd, tripled in the 5th, and doubled, scoring Pierre in the 8th. Great night for Andre, just short a HR for the cycle!
Blake didn't do much, even bobbled an easy catch TWICE, but he did single in the 5th.
Loney walked in the second, singled, scoring Manny in the 5th, and walked again in the 7th. Not a bad night for my young man, James!
Martin doubled in the 4th and again in the 7th, scoring Loney from First Base! Nice night for Li'l Russ...
Hudson singled in the 2nd, again in the 4th and yet again in the 5th, scoring a run (Loney).
Billingsly was pretty damned sound on the mound! Singled in the 4th to score Martin from 2nd base.
To top it off, Sherrill and Broxton did a fine job of wrapping things up for the Dodgers. A really nice night in baseball, all in all! Can't wait to get back to the stadium for the rubber match tomorrow night!

Juan Pierre's Oversized Hat: That Was Brutal!

Juan Pierre's Oversized Hat: That Was Brutal!

My take on the game, since I haven't been paying real attention till now, bottom of the 8th:

Juan Pierre is The Man. Aside from homeruns, he does everything you could possibly ask of him. I heard Vin announce, "Up the box and the tying run is aboard." And that is why I love J.P. He's the one who brings us home, in so many ways... I love his gumption, his BIG team spirit. And there will never be a scandal or a question about whether his abilities were "enhanced."

Juan Pierre is My Man in MLB, every day, whether Torre plays him or not. Hands down.

Howlin' at the Moon

Looks like Randy Wolf pulled out all the stops tonight in Phoenix! Nice work, young man. A two-run homer, and an rbi double? Oh, and thank you Andre for your three-run homer. Nice to have a flat-out win for a change. Keep it up, Blue.

How About that Dodgers - Giants Series?

Dodgers kicked butt at AT&T Park in games one and two, but I was here in the bay area to see game three. Not only was it a tight game, with Lincecum pitching masterfully, everything else you could ever want to see at a game pretty much happened...Russell Martin was knocked literally on his back at home plate, and right out of his shoes, which shortly thereafter sparked a bench-clearing close-face-yelling match between all the members of BOTH teams. The manager and the bench manager of the Giants were both ejected, Sophia was filmed for the JumboTron Cutie-Cam segment, and the Giants won with a walk-off two-run homer in the bottom of the 10th inning on one of the most gorgeous days San Francisco could ever produce. I totally got my money's worth on this deal!!!

What Fresh Hell is This?

OK, the world is crumbling now...I was never a Jason Giambi fan once he abandoned Oakland for New York, but I do still fondly remember his few seasons way back when, slugging away at the Coliseum. How sad is this? I remember early season reports were quite positive; he was redeeming himself, helping out the younger players...a few cracks about the fact that he wasn't the best role model for them, but still. And now, poof! What a way to end a semi-brilliant career.

Braves Again

Well, if that wasn't a heartbreaking loss, I guess I don't know what that could be. Especially after last night, when Andre got the walk-off three-run homer (his 5th walk-off this season, no less)! Tonight...ahhh, many innings, many pitchers, much sorrow. Another three-run homer to end the game, but wrong team got it. Ahhh, tomorrow is another day!

Surprising to hear the fireworks afterall - 11:30 plus by the time this game ended, no fans left, or not many! Kind of a sorry end to a hopeful, ultimately disappointing evening.

My Baseball Game with Andre

Well, I'm not sure yet what to say about tonight's game, but last night was just gorgeous. Andre Ethier is simply MONEY. Not to mention - per an extensive fan poll - THE "most attractive Dodger." On the edge of my seat right now, hoping that something happens tonight that somewhat resembles what Andre did last night... these tied-up, extra-inning games are excruciating!

Every Road Trip Eventually Leads Home

Well, I can't say it was a stellar road trip - there was actually a lot of suffering going on at my end - but tonight's game was fairly redeeming for the Dodgers, with young blood coming through once again. Matt Kemp scored five of the eight runs in the rubber match in Atlanta (to win the series), and Loney wasn't shabby either. Continuing to disappoint (sore hand?) is Manny Ramirez, but I never put a single egg in that basket, so I'll just be waiting for my next Ethier or Kemp three-run-homer, thank you very much.

Visiting the Cardinals

Well, well, Randy Wolf can't get a break. This first game of the Dodgers' road trip was a disaster. We hit into four double-plays, two by Manny Ramirez (as opposed to the three/one on our last night on the homestand) and we left 11 men on base. We got more hits than the Cardinals, yet lost 6 - 1. Manny also was the final out, striking out swinging big. Kind of a sobering evening.

Recap of Final Dodgers/Reds Game - Manny's Pinch Hit Grand Slam

Too Hot to Handle

Just under two hours till game time - yes, the Dodgers swept the Reds, and now are about to do the same to the Marlins (isn't my youthful optimism infectious)! What's amazing about the sweep of the Reds is something that I was so riled up about, in my typically highly-conflicted way, the agent of that final win (who else? Manny Ramirez!) that I was unable to post on Wednesday. Or Thursday.

So, Thursday was a quiet day off, just kind of digesting...that crazy moment in the 6th inning of that final Dodgers/Reds game. Manny comes in to pinch hit, bases loaded, one out, takes the FIRST PITCH and hits it into Mannywood, straight down the left-field line and into the open arms of his cheering peeps. A grand slam on his own bobblehead night when he was not scheduled to play, due to being hit by a pitch on the hand the night before. It was an unbelievable moment. I guess Frank McCourt compared it to the night that the Dodgers hit back-to-back-to-back-to-back home runs a couple of years ago; he said those were the two most memorable Dodger wins since he'd become owner of the Dodgers. I'll bet.

When you watch the footage, check out Dusty's face at the end - heartbreaking!

Dusty with the Reds

Happy days for Dusty Baker with Hank Aaron and young son, Darren. I do love Dusty Baker, but am still hoping the Dodgers sweep his team...

Polishing Off the Reds...I hope!

OK, OK, yeah I was at the game last night...Dodgers won, 12 - 3! A seriously sweet victory for Randy Wolf, who pitched 7-1/3 innings...Norman wasn't there, but Roy brought some new guy, Pete, who was pretty appreciative of the Dodger-doings. Everybody in my section liked how the L.A. mayor, his honorable (or not so-) Antonio Villaraigosa got booed by the entire stadium before the game. Didn't stop him from spending several innings in the owners' box, chatting up Frank.

Highlights: I think Furcal might finally be back - he doubled in the 3rd, scoring 2, then homered in the 5th, again scoring 2. Happy days are here again! James Loney went 3 for 4, scoring 2 with his long single in the 3rd inning. Matty scored 2 with his home run in the 2nd inning and, of course, Manny scored 2 with his triple in the 1st. Enough said...oh wait, my boy, Blake DeWitt was back, which is kind of exciting. As a matter of fact, he's playing again tonight!

Tonight, Wednesday the 22nd (going down in infamy as Manny Ramirez Bobblehead Night!) : So, did anyone catch Loney's triple in the 4th? Nice! I'm so attached to Loney, Martin, Kemp, Billingsly, Broxton after seeing them all play in AAA right before they came to L.A. 3 seasons ago. And then DeWitt, in his first games in the Bigs! Our new team rocks!!! Time to focus on the game - I have my broom ready; hopefully Blue will not disappoint!

Jason Schmidt "back?"

People, Holla!: Seriously, I don't think so! The McCourts may be paying him $10,000,000.00 a year but I say he's good for no better than single-A at this point in his career.

Yes, Jason's goose is cooked, and he made the whole team look amateurish and sad in the top of the first inning...what was up with the Ethier/Kemp stuff in the field? And a throwing error on Martin, just like that?!? Ack! The only Dodger foul-up in the first that I don't blame on Schmidt's shocking incompetence is that hoo-haa stunt with MR running around in the corner of left field, letting a hit become a double that would have been an easy out if JP had been there. Kind of pathetic.

But then the Dodger bats came ON in the bottom of the first (all but MR's, interestingly enough - looking, swinging, swinging again BIG on just three pitches). But everyone else - what is Micah Owings on to let himself be lit up like this? Just wondering...aw, Dusty looks so sad! I love Dusty Baker, and I don't want him to be sad, but the Dodgers need to OWN this team!

OK, whatever, Manny actually did his job in the bottom of the second w/2 outs - he homered, scoring 2 runs. I'll take it. (#537* for anyone counting)

And, damn! Vin just cursed us, going on about how the Reds killed us in the first and haven't had a hit since that inning - oops, there's a hit in the 5th. Can't believe Schmidt's arm hasn't fallen off yet. It's really unbelievable that he's still pitching. Torre & Honeycutt say he's "in the rotation -" will be back again 5 games from now. O.Kaaaaaaay.....?!?

Ahhh, bottom of the 5th: homerun #18 this season for Andre Ethier! Casey quickly comes on base behind him. I'm feeling Dodger Blue right about now....(yeah, like I wasn't before;-/) Damn, what was Casey thinking, trying to steal second?!? Not smart - uh, his old, slow butt is out! Ah, well, we leave the inning with a 7-3 lead. I'm down with that.

uuuhhhh - been napping, but it's bottom of the 7th, still 7-3 Dodgers, but OOPS, Martin just got thrown out attempting to steal. Guess I was the only one napping!

I'm liking how Russell Martin is playing offensively...things are seriously perking up for this young man! BTW, my only Dodger player name jersey is his - purchased two seasons ago, when he was barely up from AAA.

Aw, man, something just happened and Cincinnati now has 4 runs - oops, make that 5!?! Who's on the mound - yes, I am the absent-minded GIRL Dodger Blogger - oooh, it looks like.... (waiting, waiting, waiting) Troncoso, #38 is the pitcher now. He's been fairly golden, I know - better than I ever expected - so let's hang tough, Dodger fans!

Yeah, we got out of it, still up by 2 runs! Take it home, Blue Crew!

OK, get serious. Broxton is coming on...Jeez, remember the days of "Game Over" Eric Gagne? Right now is something like those days...come on, Big John!

Attendance: 48,110 - not bad for a Monday night...ooh, some of our new stadiums can't do that even on a Saturday Bobblehead game - not enough seats!!!

Eight pitches for Broxton - Dodgers WIN!!! I'll be at the game on Tuesday, scoring each and every pitch. Can't wait. There is nothing in life better than being a Dodger fan, and living less than 3 miles from Dodger Stadium. My life is blessed!!! Game Over. Dodgers Win Again!

Kershaw - Big Win Against Houston: Saturday, July 18, 2009

Nice win - go, go, go young pitcher...Kershaw has what it takes!
Hey, hey, Good-Lookin' - what'cha got cookin'? How about cookin' up somethin' good with me?

I like how this Clayton Kershaw game is shaping up!!! He's rockin' the Astros, and we are about to (1) Avoid the 'SWEEP,' and (2) Keep workin' it as the ONLY team in MLB that has not yet lost 3 consecutive games...my eye is on this record!!! Lovin' the Dodgers tenacity right now!
Woo-Hoo!
OMG - I didn't realize that today was Joe Torre's birthday - 69 years old! They have to win tonight!

The chips are down

OK, it looks like do-or-die tonight! The Dodgers have maintained their fabulous record of being the ONLY team in major league baseball - for weeks now! - that has not lost 3 (or more) games in a row.

BUT, they took a big-ass whipping from Houston last night and the night before. It's time to bring it, Blue!

Bad Moon Tonight

I was so happy to see Juan Pierre in the game tonight, but all his fleet-footed, fabulous fielding is pointless with our pitching laying down and dying on the job. Billingsly gave up 6 runs in two innings, and now we have Jeff Weaver (gag!) giving up the 7th run while facing his first batter. Just in the top of the third. Things are true-ugly tonight at Dodger Stadium tonight!
